The Georgian Parliament

The Parliament is located on Irakli Abashidze Street, Kutaisi - The building in the form of a 100m by 150m oval-shaped glass dome serves as the home of Georgian Parliament since 26.05 2012. It is located on the site of a memorial to the 300,000 Georgians and other Soviet citizens, who died in World War II.

The Opera House

The opera was founded on the 27th of December, 1969. It is located in the former Kutaisi Theatre. The building has an interesting design where each roof is topped by a sitting lion that holds its paw on a globe while on top of several columns stand tall warriors holding a spear.

The Red Bridge

The Red Bridge was designed in 1859 by a military engineer Postelnikov. Construction works started in 1860 and metal components for the bridge were ordered from Paris. The installation was finished in 1862. It was opened and blessed in May.

The bridge is 36 meters long and 8.5 meters wide. It is worth mentioning that it was the first metal bridge in the Caucasus Region. Shortly after opening it was painted in red and that is where its name derives from.

Theater

Lado Meskhishvili Theater in Kutaisi is one of the most important theaters in Georgia. The construction of the present building started in 1934 under the supervision of architect Sh. Tavadze. The work was interrupted by the civil war and resumed in 1944 this time under the direction of architect M. Shavishvilma. It was planned for 1100 viewers. The construction was finished in 1955 and the theatre was opened on 5th of November.

Amateur stage performances were held in Kutaisi since 1859. They became the foundation for the professional theater which was established in 1880. It started to fully operate in 1885 under the management of famous actor and film director Kote Meskhi who was running the theatre until 1894.
