Shorapani Fortress

Shorapani is an ancient town founded in the 3rd century B.C. It was first mentioned in written sources in the 1st century B.C. by a famous Greek historian and geographer Strabo. Shorapani is also mentioned in Greek mythology as a place where Jason and the Argonauts arrived during their trip around Colchis. According to Vakhushti Bagrationi, a Georgian Royal Prince, famous geographer, historian and cartographer from the 18th century, the town used to be the centre of Argveta Principality.

Tabakini – Caucasian Shepherd Dog Breeding

The Church of Georgia always paid a great attention to the development of Georgian culture and was a big contributor to its development. During many invasions on Georgia and difficult times for its people, the Church supported the revival of the traditional sector of Georgian art and culture such as: goldsmith art, enamel, woodcarving, Icon painting, carpet weaving etc. Another one was dog breeding. When monks from the Tabakini St. George Monastery realized that the number of Georgian Shepherd Dogs significantly decreased, they decided to establish the Dog Breeding House, to save and popularize the rare breed. In 1992, thanks to help of local people, monks opened a proper breeding place.

The village Shrosha is located in Zestafoni District on the bank of the Dzirula River. It is famous for its marble and granite but mostly for its pottery craft. The village is located on the main road connecting Eastern and Western parts of Georgia. Along the main road there is a huge market with an amazing selection of beautiful handcrafted items.
